MLPSI is a collaborative effort between Southern Illinois Healthcare and Land of Lincoln Legal Aid to assist patients in improving their health by alleviating the legal stressors in their lives. This is done by attorneys and paralegals partnering with the person's health care provider to find real solutions to legal problems.
Low income adults who are seeking services from Southern Illinois Healthcare facilities, Southern Illinois Medical Services, Shawnee Alliance for Seniors and Shawnee Health Services facilities can be referred. Referrals are made to MLPSI by doctors, nurses, social workers, case managers, or other medical professionals.
The goals of MLPSI are to inform clients of their legal rights in the legal system, promote economic security, adequate shelter and healthcare, improve family stability, make services available to the community by going to the client instead of having them come to us, and to provide free legal assistance to low income adults in areas such as:
Social Security Disability
Medicaid
Consumer issues
Unemployment
Housing
Welfare
Family Issues
Education
Powers of Attorney for healthcare and property
Wills
Foreclosure defense
