Camp B.E.T.A 2023

The sixth annual Camp BETA was held on September 23 & 24, 2023 at SIU Touch of Nature Environmental Center. The overnight camp was attended by 13 boys and girls ages 10 - 16 with Type 1 Diabetes.

We were excited to see several returning campers and welcomed some first time campers to the family!

Camp activities included: arts & crafts, board games, campfire, songs, canoeing/kayaking, rock climbing, gaga ball, horseback riding, giant swing, pamper pole, and volleyball. Camp concluded with a ceremony led by SIU Touch of Nature staff. Campers were presented with certificates and handmade wooden medallions with beads representing the different camp activities.

Camp BETA is a collaboration between Southern Illinois Healthcare, Diabetes Today Resource Team, and SIU Touch of Nature Environmental Center.

We would like to thank all the sponsors that help keep Camp BETA a free opportunity and experience for the campers. The camp's continued success can be attributed to the hard work of many community members, parents, students, nurses, dietitians, and volunteers.
